The advantages and disadvantages of a Super C camper
If you’re looking for a new RV, you may have heard of something called a Super C camper. These extra large motorhomes are a kind of mix between class A and class C models. However, they are still built on a truck chassis rather than a bus, so they are still considered Class C campers.
Some advantages of a Super C camper are more interior space, more storage space and luxury features. On the other hand, these campers are usually quite expensive and can be large and bulky to drive. But they’re still easy to handle compared to Class A campers!
We’ll delve deeper into the pros and cons of these motorhomes and how they differ from traditional Class C motorhomes. There’s a lot to discover, so let’s get started.
Benefits of a Super C RV
Relatively easy to control
Compared to the huge Class A motorhomes on the market, Super C models are fairly manageable on the road. These RVs are slightly larger than the average Class C RV and they are built on a truck chassis. This makes them sturdy and easy to maneuver. Plus, it gives them a good amount of strength!
Luxury amenities
Super C motorhomes live up to their name when it comes to build quality. These are larger and more luxurious than most Class C motorhomes. They tend to have more luxurious features, such as residential refrigerators, king-size beds, etc. If your preferences lean towards the fancier side, a Super C RV could be perfect for you.
Larger floor plan
Because Super C campers are larger than standard Class C models, they have more interior space and larger floor plans. Of course, every model is different, but Super C campers tend to have more extendable ones. This means that there are many ways to expand your space.
Wide wheelbase
Due to the truck chassis on which these vehicles are built, they have a lower center of gravity. They have a wider wheelbase compared to Class A motorhomes, so they are more stable on the road. Tilting and swinging is less of a problem when you choose one of these models.
More storage space
In addition to more interior space, Super C campers also have much more storage space to offer. They all have standard cabinets and overhead storage in the living space, but these vehicles also have large storage compartments under the cab. This design is similar to Class A motorhomes and allows you to carry a lot more stuff in a Super C. Bulky items are also easier to pack with this layout.
High towing capacity
By necessity, the truck chassis of these campers is large and powerful. This means that Super CVs are quite strong and can carry a good amount of weight behind them. If you plan to tow an extra car or boat behind you, this feature will certainly come in handy.
Disadvantages
Expensive
One of the biggest and most obvious disadvantages of a Super C camper is the price. You can usually find Class C campers for an average of $100,000. Super C motorhomes are often twice as expensive! Some new models can even be $600,000 or more. Of course, you can find cheaper ones, especially if they are used. But the high price is unpleasant for many people and it is a clear disadvantage of these vehicles.
Somewhat large and bulky
Although Super C models are smaller than the average Class A, they are still significantly larger than most class resumes. The extra length can make it difficult to find suitable parking spaces, especially if you’re trying to drive in a busy city. It can also be more difficult to find campsites that are right for you. These campers aren’t too heavy to drive, but the extra weight and length can take a toll over time.
Chassis takes away some interior space
Because Class A campers have larger hoods, you don’t have as much interior space as you might think. If you look at the total vehicle length, you sometimes get a good idea of how much space you have. But keep in mind that this measurement includes the front part of the vehicle, which is unusable for storage or living space. Don’t be fooled by misleading measurements!
Less economical
Because these vehicles are large and heavy, Super C campers need a lot of fuel. RVs are notorious gas guzzlers, so you have to be willing to pay for a lot of refills. You get niet very good mpg reviews, and this number can drop even further if you load the camper with a lot of stuff. Get ready to spend a lot of time at gas stations if you’re driving a Super C camper.
