This Custom Ford Maverick Camper Is Too Cool

If you’re looking for a combination of tent camping and car camping, check out the Ford Maverick Camper.

The Ford Maverick is an affordable lightweight pickup truck, and the platform camper is like a tent installed on the truck bed.

It’s a simple setup with just a foam mattress inside, but combined with the Ford Maverick’s off-road capabilities, this duo can take you virtually anywhere.

We take a closer look at this motorhome and find out why it’s so cool. Let’s dive in!

About the Ford Maverick

The 2023 Ford Maverick offers many ways to customize your vehicle to meet your needs, whether you need the Towing or Off-Road Package, the Hybrid Engine, or the EcoBoost.

You can spruce up the Maverick with the black appearance package and still know that the truck is “Ford-esque.”

The Ford Maverick is also a budget-friendly truck with a starting price of $22,595 for the XL model.

Models

There are three models within the Ford Maverick Camper line: the XL, the XLT and the Lariat. The starting price ranges from $22,595 to $28,355, depending on the trim level. All three models can accommodate a maximum of five people.

Each model is equipped with a 2.5L FHEV (hybrid) engine, with the option to install the 2.0L EcoBoost engine instead. All three trims come with front bucket seats and a fold-down rear bench seat with flip-up seat cushions.

The XLT and Lariat models can be equipped with optional heated seats. Also, on these two models, the standard black urethane steering wheel can be replaced with a heated leather steering wheel and the standard outside mirrors can be replaced with heated glass mirrors.

The XL is equipped with a black grille, the XLT with a gray grille, and the Lariat with a silver grille. The tailgate is manually locked on the XL, while it can be electrically locked on the XLT and Lariat.

These two trim levels also feature the SecuriCode keyless entry keypad on the driver’s side.

Technical data

Hybrid models have a 13.8-gallon fuel tank, while EcoBoost models have a 16.5-gallon tank. Although the standard models are front-wheel drive, there is the option to upgrade to all-wheel drive.

The Ford Maverick XL and XLT have a payload capacity of 1,500 pounds and are equipped with 17-inch P225/65R A/S BSW tires. The Ford Maverick Lariat has the same payload capacity, but larger P225/60R 18-inch A/S-BSW tires. Maximum towing capacity is 4,000 pounds on all three trims.

Off-road capabilities

The available Ford Maverick FX4 Off-Road Package includes 17-inch aluminum wheels, A/T tires, hill descent control, underride protection, tuned shocks, mud and rut driving mode and more.

Not only is the exterior better equipped for off-road use, but this package also includes a heavy-duty radiator and engine fan. You can be sure that the extra cooling will keep the engine running.

The Off-Road package requires the 2.0L EcoBoost engine and an upgrade to all-wheel drive.

About the Ford Maverick Camper

Go Fast Campers, also known as GFC, has designed a camper specifically for the Ford Maverick.

The camper costs from $7,700 and can be delivered and assembled at GFC’s five locations: Belgrade, Mont; Vista, Calif; Orange, Calif; Sacramento, Calif; and Denver, Colo.

Size

The entire camping unit fits in the bed of the Maverick and weighs only 275 pounds. That’s a far cry from the maximum payload of 1,500 pounds.

The platform camper has a 7.5-foot-high pop-up living area and a 50-inch-by-90-inch sleeping area. The camper adds 6.5 inches to the overall height of the Ford Maverick when closed.

Sleeper offer

A standard queen bed measures 60 inches by 80 inches. So, two adults can sleep comfortably on the 50-inch by 90-inch bed surface.

A parent and two children can also share a fun camping adventure together in the Ford Maverick Camper.

Features

The 50-inch by 90-inch reclining area features a 2-inch dual-density mattress. You can configure your camper without windows, which increases security, keeps the camper cooler and provides more privacy.

However, you can also order just a front window, a rear window, or both front and rear windows if you want natural light to enter the camper.

The camper comes with a huge screened door at the back of the tent, but you can also add side doors for a panoramic view. Another special feature is the aluminum side walls. They are powder coated in your choice of black, white, red, bronze, metallic gray, silver, gray, green or blue.

Finally, the roof of the Ford Maverick camper is made of a translucent composite material that reflects the sun to keep you cool.

Can you sleep in the back seat of a Ford Maverick?

The Ford Maverick Camper comes with a mattress so you can sleep in the back of the truck on the platform.

Since it’s a platform design, you don’t sleep in the actual truck bed, but on the raised surface of the camper itself.

Because of its functionality, you can also stand in the cargo area and use the platform as a desk. The modular floor has a removable section that creates a pass-through. Imagine where you can go, work and play with your Ford Maverick camper!

How long does it take to order a custom Ford Maverick?

The shipping date is about three months after the order date. So if you order sometime in February, your new Ford Maverick motorhome will likely be delivered sometime in May.

Currently, the Montana location is about a month ahead of the other four GFC locations.
